Backyards designed and built for Florida Living
Pergola pavilions, outdoor kitchens, ponds, barns and custom wood buildings for homes across Pasco County, planned around your yard and built for Florida sun, sand and summer storms.
What we build
Most yards get two or three of these together, like a pond with a deck beside it, or a pavilion with the patio and lights around it.
-
Pergolas and pavilions Covered outdoor rooms with ceiling fans, TV walls, swings and lighting built into the beams.
-
Outdoor kitchens Grill stations, drink fridges, counters and the power and water lines to run them.
-
Ponds and water features Lined ponds edged in limestone boulders, with pumps, falls and the plantings around them.
-
Barns, sheds and custom buildings Country store fronts, lofted barns, she sheds and workshops framed and sided in wood.
-
Patios, pavers and decks Paver pool decks, patios and wood decks laid level on Pasco sand.
-
Fencing, gates and animal shelters Board fence, pasture gates and run-in shelters for calves, donkeys and backyard flocks.
Meet Steve Farrell, our founder
Steve Farrell started Farrell Roofing in Port Richey in 2006. The Farrell companies that grew out of it now handle roofing, plumbing, air conditioning, electrical and remodeling work on homes across Pasco County.
Over those years Steve has stayed involved in his local community and kept building on his journey as an entrepreneur. Concepts in Outdoor Designs is his next adventure, with the goal of beautifying backyards across Pasco County.

How a project goes
One crew handles the design and the build, so the price on the plan is the price of the job.
-
Call or send the form
Tell us what you want built and where you live. We call back to talk it through.
-
Yard visit
We walk the yard, measure, and look at sun, drainage, slope and where power and water can reach.
-
Design and written price
You get a layout drawing, a material list and a written price. Nothing starts until you sign off.
-
Permits and build
We pull the permits the job needs, build it, and walk the finished project with you.
What we check in a Pasco County yard
-
Permits
Pasco County issues the building permit for most pergolas, sheds and covered structures. Inside New Port Richey or Port Richey city limits, the city building department issues it instead.
-
Flood zones
A lot of land west of US 19 sits in a FEMA flood zone. We look up the parcel before design, because it can change the footings and where a building can sit.
-
Sand
West Pasco soil is mostly fine sand. Posts go in concrete footings and pavers get a compacted base so they stay level through a summer of rain.
-
HOA approval
If your neighborhood has an HOA, we put together the drawings and material list the board asks for.

Common questions
Do you design the project or build it too?
Both. We draw the plan and the same crew builds it, so the written price on the design is the price for the job.
What does a backyard project cost?
It depends on the size, the materials and what the site needs, such as footings, fill or electrical work. After the yard visit you get a written price for the exact plan before anything starts.
Do I need a permit for a pergola or shed in Pasco County?
Usually, yes. Most pergolas, sheds and covered structures need a building permit, and HOA approval where there is an HOA. We pull the permits as part of the job.
How soon can you start?
It depends on the season, the size of the job and how long the permit takes. You get a start date along with the written price.
Do you build on farm and pasture land?
Yes. Barns, run-in shelters, board fence and pasture gates are a regular part of what we build.
Which areas do you work in?
We are based in Port Richey and work across Pasco County, including New Port Richey, Hudson, Bayonet Point, Holiday, Trinity, Odessa, Land O' Lakes, Wesley Chapel, Zephyrhills and Dade City.
